The first season of Shingeki no Bahamut was some of the best animated, most visually pleasing shows I have ever seen. So when I learned about Virgin Soul, the second season of this show, I was more than ready for it. I am happy to report that like the first season, Virgin Soul is still as visually pleasing with a sometimes flawed, but mostly entertaining fantasy story.
Virgin Soul picks up years after the events of the first season. Bahamut has been defeated and the world tries to move forward from the harm Bahamut caused. The protagonist of our story is a pink-haired girl named Nina. Nina is a carefree girl who is abnormally strong. She lives and works in the capital city of the Empire. Through various circumstances, Nina enters into the conflict between the human Empire, the Gods, and the Demons.
Visually, this is one of the best anime released in recent memory. I have no idea what their budget is, but it must be huge. There are special effects and a lot of action. Even when it isn’t an action scene, the animation quality is top-notch.
The story itself isn’t bad. It’s a very standard fantasy story, which again, isn’t bad. There’s twists, turns, romance and romance and adventure and all those things you want in a fantasy story. Some of the plot points didn’t work for me, as in they didn’t make any sense, but it’s mostly a good tale.
Voice acting was great, music was great.
Overall, this is a quality show. If you’re looking for a bit of escapism, this is your ticket.
