Restaurant Review: Pio Pio

Details: Located at 210 E 34th St, New York, NY 10016, among other locations. The official site is https://www.piopio.com/

Pio Pio is a Peruvian restaurant with a focus on rotisserie chicken. They have other sides, too, but it’s mostly about the chicken.

The location we went was a relatively small, cramped space.

Service was meh. Not great.

In regards to food, I had the quarter dark chicken (costs five dollars) and the salchipapa (french fries with cut up hot dogs, cost six dollars). I also ate some of my friends sides. It was okay.

Overall, this isn’t a great place to eat for dinner. It’s a good place for lunch as they have decent lunch specials. If you do want to come here for dinner, you need to bring a few people with you. They don’t really serve things in individual serving sizes and none of the food here is so good that you’ll want to eat a platter of plantains or beans and rice.

Restaurant Review: Red 58

Details: Located at 158 W 58th St, New York, NY 10019. Official site is http://red58ny.com/

What a shitty restaurant. Red 58 is the kind of restaurant that feels like it was opened by two frat brother with rich parents. One day, these two frat brother were sitting around and thought to themselves,” what if we open a bar/restaurant?” And then they did. But they didn’t know how to cook, so they hired a mutual friend who dropped out of culinary school and hired one of their Russian ex-girlfriends to be the waitress/bartender. Ask mommy and daddy for a little interior decorating investment and voilà, you have Red 58.

Restaurant Review: Between the Bread

Between the bread is like Dig Inn, except that it’s a few dollars more expensive. In exchange, you also get more options, like more meat options, baked goods, breakfast and sandwiches.

Dig Inn is a fast casual American style restaurant. Think Chipotle style assembly line service with slightly higher quality, healthier, American style food.

Restaurant Review: Soba Azuma

Details: Located at 251 W 55th St, New York, NY 10019. The official site is https://www.sobaazuma55.com/

I came here for dinner one night and ordered the Azuma Gozen (mini assorted tempura, dashimaki, three pieces of salmon sashimi, random side dish, rice, soba, and a scoop of ice cream, cost $19.50). You can get hot or cold soba. I chose cold. You can also order 100 grams, 200 grams, or 300 grams of soba depending on how much you feel like eating. Any serving size up to 300 grams all cost the same and over 300 grams costs extra.

The thing about soba is that it’s supposed to taste different. It’s also supposed to  be healthier. I can’t testify to any of that. To me, it just tasted like a bowl of regular noodles. I will say that if I ever have soba again, I will order the hot option where it comes served in a soup/broth. The cold version comes with cold noodles with a cold dipping sauce. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t all that appetizing eating cold noodles.

Overall, not bad. If you’re in the area and feel like eating something slightly different from Japanese ramen, this isn’t a bad choice.

Restaurant Review: Pazza Notte

Details: Located at 1375 6th Ave, New York, NY 10019. The official site is http://www.pazzanotte.com

Came here a quick work lunch. They have this deal where they give you a fast lunch for fifteen dollars.

You get to pick two things from a list. I ordered a salad with carbonara penne pasta. Both the salad and pasta were served in small portions and wasn’t really all that filling, which is what a need during lunch on a workday. There was some complimentary bread and biscotti as well.

Overall, not a great place for a work lunch. I imagine their dinner service is a lot more satisfying as well as expensive.
