The Defenders is the culmination of all the Marvel, comic book, superhero shows that have been airing on Netflix over the last couple of years. It takes the characters from Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist and smashes them all into one big crossover event of a show. Despite the anticipation and hype that the show was trying to build up, The Defenders is just okay.
Details: Aired on the BBC in 2017. The Christmas Special aired in 2016. Twelve episodes with each episode somewhere between forty-five minutes to an hour long.
I think Matt Smith’s impact on the Doctor Who series is profound in that his tenure was one of the most successful, if not the most successful. That creates problems, especially for his successor, Peter Capaldi. You see, Smith was so charismatic, had such presence in each episode, that the writers could write whatever dumb, lazy, ill thought out crap they wanted and Matt Smith would just deliver the hell out of those lines. He’d play that quirky, charming Doctor and we’d go along for the ride, no matter how little sense the plot made. The problem is that Capaldi is neither as young nor is his performance as in your face or charming as Smith’s and that is intentionally so. Doctor Who writers can no longer rely on the leading actor to fill in all the writing errors and instead have to write good stories.
Capaldi’s first season seemed to be that adjustment period. The stories weren’t great because they needed to learn how to write for a Doctor that wasn’t Matt Smith. This second season of Capaldi’s tenure is far better in that the stories and science fiction concepts expressed in here are far better and held my interest better. I’m glad they relied less on Capaldi, even though he did a good job here. Series 10 is a good season of science fiction and I enjoyed it very much.
Details: Started airing in 2015 on FOX. Two seasons with thirteen episodes in season one and eighteen episodes in season two. Each episode is about an hour-long, including commercials.
Lucifer is a show loosely based on the character of Lucifer first established in the renowned Sandman comic books. While very loosely based on those books, Lucifer the television show is actually kind of a mashup between Castle and Supernatural. It’s a police procedural with supernatural drama going on.

At this point in my life, if there’s a superhero in the show, I will watch it. I can’t help it. I just like superhero stuff and I’m too curious to do otherwise. So after the last season of Arrow, I wasn’t expecting much this season. I didn’t enjoy the last season. Fortunately, while this season does make a few of the same narrative mistakes as last season, I generally enjoyed it.

I love science fiction. Especially trippy, Doctor Who-esque science fiction and this is what makes The Flash so good. As the series has progressed, each season has gone further and further down the sci-fi rabbit hole. Accordingly, this season is the best season yet.

After at least ten years, Samurai Jack has finally ended. With shows that have been around this long, there are a lot of memories associated with this series as well as nostalgia. Ultimately, I think they did the ending right, though it did feel a little rushed.

While not the longest running show ever, Supernatural has been on T.V. a long time. We’ve now entered the twelfth season and I think the formula of this show is well established. I like the sameness and knowing the plot beats I can expect to see, except in slightly different forms. I like this show the way it is and I do not want it to change.

If your familiar with the series, there’s not much to say about this season. It’s more of the same from season one. This isn’t a bad thing, there’s just no evolution or improvements.
